MacOS Installation

There are three ways to install AnythingLLM on MacOS

1. Install using the Installation .dmg file

2. Install using Homebrew

3. Install using Docker

Install using the installation file

Install the right dmg!

➤ Make sure you downloaded the correct dmg for your device! We support both types of chips found in MacOS devices.

➤ Apple Silicon devices (M1/M2/M3) - AnythingLLMDesktop-AppleSilicon.dmg

➤ Apple (Intel) - AnythingLLMDesktop.dmg

Downloading the installation file

Here is the download links for the latest version of Anything LLM MacOS.

MacOS (Intel-based CPU)→MacOS (M-Series CPU)→

Your internet browser may need you to verify you want to download and run the AnythingLLM Desktop app since it may be marked as “untrusted” depending on your browser security settings.

Click “Keep“ when downloading to allow the file to download.

Installing the application

After downloading the .dmg file from the link in the invitation email, you will want to double-click on the resulting installed file.

Once the dmg opens, you can drag the AnythingLLM logo into Applications

Once installed, you will find AnythingLLM in your Applications folder as well as you can use cmd + spacebar and type in AnythingLLM to run.


Install using Homebrew

Make sure you have installed Homebrew (opens in a new tab) on your machine, if you don’t have Homebrew installed then you can install it by following this guide (opens in a new tab)

Run the following command on your terminal

  1. brew install --cask anythingllm

Once installed, you will find AnythingLLM in your Applications folder as well as you can use cmd + spacebar and type in AnythingLLM to run.


Install using Docker

Make sure you have installed Docker (opens in a new tab) on your machine, if you don’t have Docker installed then you can install it by following this guide (opens in a new tab)

Run this command on your terminal

  1. docker pull mintplexlabs/anythingllm

It will pull in the latest AnythingLLM image from docker.

Once you have pulled the latest image, run the following commands

  1. export STORAGE_LOCATION=$HOME/anythingllm && \
  2. mkdir -p $STORAGE_LOCATION && \
  3. touch "$STORAGE_LOCATION/.env" && \
  4. docker run -d -p 3001:3001 \
  5. --cap-add SYS_ADMIN \
  6. -v ${STORAGE_LOCATION}:/app/server/storage \
  7. -v ${STORAGE_LOCATION}/.env:/app/server/.env \
  8. -e STORAGE_DIR="/app/server/storage" \
  9. mintplexlabs/anythingllm

The above command will mount the storage locally and run AnythingLLM in Docker

Now go to http://localhost:3001 on your browser and you are now using AnythingLLM!

All your data and progress will persist between container rebuilds or pulls from Docker Hub.
